Ian Randell   Henrik Lundqvist   Doug Poole
Ian, who was born in Devon, UK, began his professional
career armed with a Management Sciences Degree from Warwick University and with a love of all sports but of golf and football in particular.
It was inevitable that his chosen career would be sportorientated
and this led to his joining the PGA of GBI as a tournament official, an opening that progressed him to becoming
a Tournament Director based at the PGA’s Belfry HQ.
In his role he accumulated considerable experience of running professional tournaments with all that these duties entail and this prepared him well for his next ppointment, that of Director of Operations of the Ladies European Tour which included fulfilling the role of Chief Referee at the Solheim Cup. Within a couple of years he progressed to chief executive
of the Ladies European Tour when the vacancy arose and
during his spell there he took on board substantial
commercial experience in attracting significant new
sponsorship income, widespread travel in Europe and beyond, involvement with the presentation of major tournaments including
the Solheim Cup and relationship with the news
media. From there he moved on to a wider role as chief executive of the British Universities Sports Association in which more
experience of sporting administration was absorbed.
Golf specialisation is, however, Ian’s main priority and when
the vacancy of chiep ecexutive of The PGA’s of Europe occurred
the opportunity to return to work back at the Belfry in an
appointment with a challenging perspective across Europe,
and beyond, the temptation was too great to resist.
He took up these duties in January 2007 and is now at the
helm in helping to lead the association into a new strategic
plan for the 21st century. He is a low handicap golfer, a
Manchester United supporter and a father of a small daughter.
Henrik Lundqvist turned pro in 1986 and is 44 years old. In 2003 he was the coach on the Challenge Tour for the
Swedish National Teams.
In Belgium he was national coach, technical consultant to the AFG and Teacher of the year. Henrik gave seminars for the Swedish, Norwegian and Belgian Training Education and is speaker on the Teaching and
Coaching Conference in Seden 2010. Today he is technically responsible for the Norwegian Golf Federation.
Initially Doug started his career as professional golfer playing
tournament golf whilst attached to Coombe Hill Golf Club in
Surrey, then moving to Lindrick Golf Club as full professional
in the late 70’s.
His experience in playing golf around the world lead him into
the travel industry in the early 80’s and after a spell of running
his own company he joined British Airways as Director of Golf,
a position he stayed with for 7 years until he decided again
to start his own company in golf and corporate travel.
In the later part of the 90’s he sold his business and joined a
fledgling business, Golfsmith Europe since when he has
developed the company into Europe’s leading supplier of
custom technology and club component sales. Golfsmith is a
major developer of custom fitting technique’s and has trained
over 800 students through their famous custom clubmaking
schools, which have also been the foundation for running
similar over 20 courses for PGA’s throughout Europe.
